Very collectable used 14" Miles City Saddlery Western saddle. This saddle is a 73X model and has the numbers 200 47 stamped on the back of the cantle. We contacted Miles City Saddlery and found that the numbers stand for this was the 200th saddle of this model built in 1947. The following is out of the original catalog. "The 73X was originally designed for Sid Vollin, one of the foremen of the largest horse ranch outfits in the Northwest. It was commonly called the "Sid Special". The fork is designed in a manner so that the moment your legs come in contact with it you assume a grip and balance instantaneously which cannot be dislodged except of your own free will, and at the same time ride in perfect ease. The seat is a marvel of comfort and the cantle is of proper height to give needed support. The materials throughout are of the highest grade as well as the workmanship and this saddle is particularly recommended for roping and similar hard work, where steady all day riding is required."
This saddle is medium oil in color with floral and leaf tooling. It features a slick hard seat, 6 engraved silver conchos with saddle strings and a leather tie strap and off billet. The gullet measures 6 3/4" Regular/Semi Quarter Horse bars and the rawhide wrapped wood tree is solid. The underside fleece is in pretty good condition for its age but does show some wear spots. This is a hard to find old collectable Western working saddle, it is in good condition, clean and ready for its new home!
